Cold and flu season is here. We've already had a couple colds in our house and my oldest daughter has had a cough for a couple weeks now. She doesn't usually like to take medicine because of how bad a lot of cough medicines taste. But, after struggling with her cough for 2 weeks now, she needed something to help her get through the day.

In the past, I've had coughs that hung on for weeks. Short of going in to the doctor for prescription strength medication, the only thing that really gave me relief was Robitussin. We recently had the chance to try out a new product from Robitussin: Maximum Strength Severe Multi-Symptom Cough Cold + Flu.

Robitussin Maximum Strength Severe Multi-Symptom Cough Cold + Flu is a new enhanced formula that soothes your sore throat and provides relief from your worst cough, cold and flu symptoms. It relieves
  • Cough, sore throat
  • Body aches, fever
  • Nasal congestion
  • Chest congestion
It's available in a new raspberry mint flavor. It's for daytime use and recommended for those age 12 and up.

The active ingredients are Acetaminophen (for pain and fever), Dextromethorphan HBr (to suppress coughs), Guaifenesin (expectorant), and Phenylephrine HCl (to help with nasal congestion).  The dosage is 20 mL for adults and children 12 years and older. The package includes a dosing cup.

My daughter is just under 12, so I didn't give her a full dose. She was hesitant to try it because she was scared it wouldn't taste good. Unfortunately, she said they lied about the "Better Taste" claim and she only managed to take a couple sips.

I tasted a little bit of it, even though I'm not sick right now. I thought the taste wasn't bad at all. It was definitely less bitter than other cough medicines I've tried! Plus, it may just be coincidence, but my daughter hasn't really coughed since she tried the Robitussin! (Though, probably whatever virus she had had run its course.)

I definitely will be taking this new Robitussin formulation if and when I get sick this season. I can't afford to be super sick and I think taking Robitussin Severe Cough Cold + Flu will help make it easier to get through my day.
