Find Me! - Seek and Find Book Series - REVIEW

Friday, April 24, 2020

DISCLOSURE: I received free books in exchange for my honest review. No further compensation was provided. All opinions are my own.

The schools closed in our state a little over a month ago. While they have given us packets and some general guidelines on what we should be teaching them, I've struggled with other ways to keep my kids engaged and interested. Sometimes the material in the packets would be too tedious and my kids would get tired or bored.

Recently, I had the chance to review two books from a new series from Happy Fox Books, called Find Me! They were a happy distraction for my kids from their usual math and reading assignments. And it also kept them occupied for a bit, which allowed me to get some work done. That was greatly appreciated, now that the kids are here all the time!

My First Experience With Blue Apron - REVIEW

Thursday, April 23, 2020

About a month ago, my husband and I decided we were going to give Blue Apron a try. We had been playing around with the idea of signing up for a meal delivery service for a couple years after we had had the chance to try a different meal delivery service. We liked the convenience of it. Now, given the current circumstances and stay-at-home order issued by our state, our Blue Apron box came at a perfect time.

Blue Apron is one of many meal delivery services currently available. They deliver the ingredients and the recipe for the meals you choose each week. You can choose how often and how many meals you want to receive. You can even choose which recipes you want to try.

Our first box included everything needed to prepare three different meals. We chose a 4 serving plan. Even though we are a family of six, our kids are pretty picky and we knew they all wouldn't always be willing to try everything that came.

Goals Update - March 2020

Monday, March 9, 2020

It's been a little over two months now since I laid out my goals for the year. And I have to say, I really have not been doing that great of a job at keeping up with them!

My first goal of the year was to start a workout regimen. And while I have done workouts here and there since setting that goal, I still haven't done anything on the regular. I never signed up for any classes. I never joined a gym. There was a time when I started doing my regular workout DVD (Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred) three or four times a week, but even that has dropped to only once or twice. I may try and start something up once the weather starts getting warmer, or I may just continue to try and do this DVD more often. Either way, the main goal isn't really to lose any weight, but to tone and build up strength and endurance.

My second goal was to learn a new skill. I did start using Duolingo more frequently. At first I was doing three different languages at once, but that got a little confusing. I had taken French all through high school and a year in college and I had started doing French again on Duolingo to refresh my memory. But, then, I decided Spanish would be a more useful skill. I have had several patients who only speak Spanish and very limited English and it was difficult to get through the exam. If I could learn enough Spanish to communicate with them better, I'd be able to give them better care. If you haven't already, join me on Duolingo and learn a new language with me!

My third goal was to spend more time with my family. I had all intentions to plan all sorts of activities for our weekends, but then we ended up signing up my one son for vision therapy (a whole other story I can discuss if anyone is interested). So now he meets with his vision therapist every Saturday, which pretty much knocks out any chances of any quick weekend getaways for the family until after June.

Lastly, I wanted to grow professionally. I will be attending a conference this April and hope to attend another big one in the fall.

One thing I wasn't plan on doing and I did was declutter. I had lost my wedding ring for several weeks and that resulted in me going through my whole bedroom and getting rid of furniture, clothes, toiletries, and all sorts of things. We did finally find my ring, so that was good. It wasn't even in my room!

How are you doing on your goals for the year?

Medieval Times is a family dinner theater. The experience features a 4-course meal and Medieval jousting tournament, including knights, swordplay and horsemanship. There are currently ten Medieval Times locations in North America. We visited the Baltimore location at the Arundel Mills Outlet Mall.

Happy New Year!

Saturday, January 4, 2020

Can you believe it's 2020 already?! It really feels like 2019 went by so fast!

I'm starting the year off sick. I've been battling bronchitis for like three weeks now! I've gone to Urgent Care and the ER and have tried a whole slew of medications and nothing has helped! So, that leads me to my first goal of the year. Well, other than getting better!

1)  To start a regular workout regimen

Up until now, I've never really worked out. I might do a random exercise DVD here and there, but nothing on the regular. As I'm getting older, I realize I can't keep living like I did 20, or even, 10 years ago. Plus, I have family history of pretty much every health issue out there. I need to start taking better care of myself.

So, this year, I will start something. I haven't quite decided yet  I have a couple friends who do Orange Theory. I'm just not sure that's the right fit for me. I have another friend who has been doing a pole dancing class. That looks fun. But, I don't want people judging me for taking it. I also looked at Pure Barre. But the closest class is 40 minutes away.

Once I figure it out, I’ll share on the blog and/or social.
