Back To Knitting and Crochet

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

The past couple weeks I've been feeling down and a little lonely. It's been a long time since I've felt this sad and I wasn't really sure what to do about it. This past Christmas, my husband had gone through my Amazon wish list and bought a lot of the knitting and crochet items on there that I had added a few years ago when I was doing a lot more knitting and crochet. I took that as a sign to get back into it.

After a rough week at work, on New Year's Eve, I set out to try fair isle knitting. It was one of my goals that I wanted to complete at the beginning of last year, but never got around to actually trying it. I found a simple pattern on Ravelry and started making a fair isle hat, while I was waiting for the ball to drop on New Year's Eve.

The beginning of the year brought some unexpected changes that really pushed me to finish that hat. I found it be pretty therapeutic as I knitted the stitches. The pattern was simple enough that I could knit it without any problems, but different enough to help keep my mind occupied. I started the hat on New Year's Eve and finished it January 2nd. I was pretty happy with the finished results and even took some pictures with my new hat.

Even though I'm smiling, I had had a pretty rough day at work.

I immediately started a new hat. I found knitting helped me with all the emotions I had been feeling. I managed to finish my second hat in a day. It was another fair isle hat that I thought looked cuter on my daughter than on me. The pattern designer even reshared the photo on Instagram.

After knitting a third hat, I set out to make an amigurumi doll. My husband had bought me a book of amigurumi patterns that I had also added to my Amazon wish list a few years ago. I chose to make a koala because I think they're cute. I named him Jay, but my daughter quickly renamed him Candy, even after I kept insisting that it was a boy.

I'm planning to keep up with the knitting and crocheting this year. Maybe even venture into cables with my knitting. And maybe more clothing items. My ultimate goal would be to get good enough to open up an Etsy shop. If you want to keep up with my knitting and crochet adventures, check out my Instagram profile. I usually post pictures there of the finished products!
