Mineral makeup was all I used in college and throughout my 20's. But, once I got older, I felt the loose powder foundation wasn't giving me the amount of coverage I needed. Since then, I've been bouncing from one brand to another, not really finding the perfect one.
Recently, I had the opportunity to try Mineral Fusion Makeup. I had never heard of the brand before and was curious to see if it would be better than the other mineral makeup I had used in the past.
Mineral Fusion offers a line of natural cosmetics, skin care, body care and hair care products. All of their products are free of gluten, parabens, phthalates, SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), artificial colors and synthetic fragrances.
I was given a coupon to use towards a free cosmetics or skincare product. Mineral Fusion products are available to purchase in-store from stores such as Whole Foods, Wegman's and select Targets. The coupon was supposed to be redeemed at Target. Unfortunately, it wasn't available in the three closest Target locations to me. I had to drive about 45 minutes to find one that carried the line.
Once I found Mineral Fusion in Target, I was a little disappointed in the selection. Several products were out of stock or only had limited options available. I ended up choosing to try Mineral Fusion Sheer Tint Foundation. I thought it would give me better coverage than what I've been currently using.
Mineral Fusion Sheer Tint Foundation is available in three colors: Warm (for medium tones), Olive (for olive skin) and Neutral (for neutral skin). I really wasn't sure which to go with, but ended up picking Warm.
Mineral Fusion Sheer Tint Foundation is formulated with essential minerals and enriched with age-defying antioxidants and skin-soothing botanicals. It offers sheer coverage with a dewy finish. The foundation is lightweight and hydrating and recommended for all skin types.
The makeup was darker than I was expecting. But, it went on smoothly and I actually didn't need all that I squeezed out! The directions recommend applying with your fingers. After application, my skin did appear smoother and more even. My skin looked a little too shiny, though, for my liking so I applied some powder after. Below is the Before and After.
I did feel the Warm was a little too dark for my current skin tone. It would be better for the summer after I've gotten some sun.
I ended up winning another coupon for a free Mineral Fusion product from a contest, so I went to Target again to try a different product. They're currently holding a promotion where you can receive a free lip color if you buy a face product.
The selection of products was a little better during this visit, but the choices within each line of products were still pretty limited. After standing there forever trying to decide, I ended up going with Mineral Fusion Pressed Powder Foundation and Mineral Fusion Lip Sheer.
Mineral Fusion Pressed Powder Foundation offers light to full coverage. The foundation is easy to apply and is buildable. It evens skin tone and smooths the appearance of fine lines and pores. It's available in varying shades from Cool to Deep, each with different levels. Unfortunately, the selection was pretty slim at my Target. I ended up choosing Warm 1, which ended up being too light. I should have gotten Warm 2 or Olive 1, but I don't remember if those choices were even there.
Above is my Before (left) and After (right). Because I felt the foundation was too light, I ended up applying bronzer to my cheeks and forehead to add more color. I'm not sure if I'll continue using the Pressed Powder since it's light. It might be okay during the colder months, when I don't get as much sun. Or I could maybe use it to highlight my face.
The lip color selection was also pretty lacking. I had wanted to get the Lipstick in Gem, but they only had one tube and the box was opened and kind of beat up, so I didn't trust it. I ended up getting the Lip Sheer in Inspire. The color is very sheer and somewhat pinkish. I'm wearing the lip color in the above picture (right). It glides on smoothly, but with it being so sheer, it was hard to tell how long it actually lasted.
Overall, I liked the Mineral Fusion brand. Now that I have a better idea of what colors would work for me, I might buy it either online on the Mineral Fusion website or at a different store. You can use their Store Locator to find where to buy it near you. Save $3 at your local Target with this coupon!
I love your blog. Is it possible to see more Mineral Fusion? As a mineral cosmetic user, Mineral Fusion is the only brand I found that gives great color and has an offering from Lip Liners (love the shade Elegant) and their new Lip Butters (Vine is a great color). Never thought a vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free and paraben-free brand would deliver and Mineral Fusion does!
