Let me preface this review by saying that I've never really written a book review before and I'm not really much of a reader. I think the last time I really read a book was when I reread the last Harry Potter book before the last Harry Potter movie came out. That was awhile ago!
But, I was offered the chance to read and review this book and couldn't pass it up. I've been wanting to read it for awhile. I heard that it was funny and one of my sister's friends is slightly obsessed with Mindy Kaling. At one point, over half of his Facebook posts were either about Mindy or her show or something totally unrelated but he somehow brought it back to Mindy! So, I was curious to see what made her so interesting.
The book is pretty easy to read. If I had the time, I probably would have been able to read it straight through in about a day or two. But, I have four kids. One, being a nursing toddler who is pretty demanding and needs supervision. She's kind of fearless and likes to climb on everything! So, instead it took me over two weeks to finish the book! I would read a few pages here and then a couple more pages over there and then pick it up again a couple days later.
The nice thing about the book is that it's not one long story. I can put it down to do something else and come back to it later (even several days later) and not feel lost and have to reread several pages back to figure out what's going on. The book is divided into several sections, where she muses about childhood friends, college and life before and after The Office.
The book was relatable in some ways. She'd talk about growing up watching Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Conan O'Brien (I did too!) and things and people that annoyed her or made her cry (Mark Darcy!). I could see why my sister's friend liked her so much. She's funny and someone I could see myself hanging out with!
I'd definitely recommend this book. Again, it's an easy read and if you have the time, you could probably finish it in a couple days. And then reread it again for fun!
The book is available in paperback, hardback, audio book, and for e-readers. (Affiliate link below.)
