Happy New Year!

Wednesday, January 2, 2019

Wow! It's 2019 already! I don't know about you, but I am glad 2018 is over. It was such a challenging year. And while it had its ups and downs, I am ready for a fresh start.

The year started out pretty rough. I spent the first month just feeling sad and not sure what I wanted to do. I spent a good bit of it just crying and being mad at myself for being so sad. I took some time off work and went on a quick trip with my sister up to New York City. It was a lot of fun and a much needed break.

February, I decided I needed a change. I was tired of working every single weekend and feeling left out at home. I just felt so disconnected with my family and I started looking for a new job. I had a few job opportunities that opened up, but none that really worked for me.

In March, one of my co-workers announced she was leaving and had accepted a position somewhere closer to home. I took that as an opportunity to discuss my schedule with my managers. I figured with them being down a doctor, they would be more willing to work with me to ensure that I was happy. I thought wrong. I ended up turning in my letter of resignation and left my job of 14 years to start over at a new job.

I started my new job in mid April. I had managed to negotiate having two Saturdays off a month and having all Sundays off, because the office was closed then. I was going to be working more hours, but also making a whole lot more money that I had been with my old job. Plus, I would have my weekends back. On paper, it sounded great. But, with any other job in a corporate setting, it had its drawbacks.

Which leads me to my first goal for the New Year. I'm hoping to decrease my workload. It's been tough only having two weekdays off a month. Sometimes I only get one. I'm hoping to drop down to a four day work week. Be it at my current job or at a new one. We will have to see.

Last year was a big year of travel for me. I finally got my passport renewed. 15 years after my last plane ride! And I took three round trip flights last year! Granted, they were all to Orlando. But, you know, baby steps! I overcame my fear of flying and this year, I'm hoping to go on more adventures and maybe, if I'm brave enough, a solo trip somewhere!

I'm also hoping to get back into blogging. I had really neglected the blog this past year. I was so busy with work. I just didn't have time for anything else. I'm hoping once I reduce my work hours, I'd have more time to devote to my blog. I'm thinking it needs another redesign and name change. I need to figure out a new focus. I did receive a new GoPro this past Christmas. I'd love to get into vlogging. So hopefully there will be more action on my YouTube channel soon!

I also would love to get into photography. I love taking pictures. I take pictures all the time. But, I want to learn to use my big camera on the manual setting.

Lastly, I need to declutter. I have such hoarding tendencies. I attach sentimental value to everything. Another thing I'm hoping I get a chance to work on if I'm home more.

I'm really looking forward to see what the New Year has in store for me. Have you set any goals for the New Year?
