Sunglasses For Kids #NationalSunglassesDay

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

DISCLOSURE: I am a licensed, practicing optometrist. I do not have any relationships/affiliations with any sunglasses company mentioned in this post. All opinions are my own.

National Sunglasses Day is June 27. It serves as a reminder to wear sunglasses to help protect your eyes from UV radiation. Long term exposure to UV radiation can accelerate the development of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. While these conditions are usually associated with older individuals, it's important to make sure children wear sun protection, too.

Children's eyes absorb more solar radiation than adults. Most of the lifetime UV damage occurs during childhood. Though, the consequences are not usually seen until they are adults.

The following are some of my favorite sunglasses companies for children:

BABIATORS - www.babiators.com

The company was started in 2011. Co-founder Molly Fienning wanted to make stylish and durable sunglasses for children to use, just like what her aviator husband, Ted, had. They decided to call them, "Babiators." The company provides polarized and non-polarized aviator-style sunglasses for children age 0-7. The lenses provide 100% UV protection and the frames are flexible and durable. They also offer bigger sunglasses with mirrored lenses for children aged 7-14, as well as swim goggles for children aged 3-7.

My kids each have a pair of Babiators. They come in all sorts of cute designs. I love how flexible the frames are. I don't have to worry about the kids breaking them. Plus, if you register your sunglasses and they lost or broken within a year of purchase, they will replace them for FREE!

My daughter's favorite pair
PAXLEY - www.paxleyshop.com

Paxley sunglasses are made in Italy. Materials are BPA-free, lead-free, PVC-free, Phthalates-free, and latex-free. The sunglasses are light and durable with shatterproof lenses. They have frame styles for children aged 0-3 and 3-5.

Here's my daughter wearing her Pico Strawberry sunglasses. I love that they come with a headstrap!

ROSHAMBO BABY - www.roshambobaby.com

Roshambo Baby offers sunglasses for the entire family. Their frames are durable and flexible and the lenses provide 100% UV protection. You can even have a prescription added into the frames! A portion of each sale goes to the Autism Research Institute.

We don't have a pair of sunglasses from Roshambo Baby yet. But, they come in a lot of cute styles. I love that you can bend them, twist, them and even step on them and they won't break!
