Wednesday, May 24, 2017

DISCLOSURE: I received this product for free from Moms Meet (, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

Lately, I've been paying more attention to what I eat. My metabolism isn't what it used to be and I can't eat the way I did 15 years ago. In addition to being more mindful of the foods I'm eating, I've begun looking into nutritional supplements to help me look and feel better.

One type of supplement that I had been considering are probiotics. I had begun noticing that my stomach would get upset after eating. I couldn't really pinpoint what it was that was making it upset. It just seemed like everything I ate was making me feel sick. I already have a ton of food allergies and so I was afraid that maybe I was developing a gluten sensitivity, too.

Revlon ColorStay Eye Makeup Review

Sunday, May 21, 2017

DISCLOSURE: I received free samples from Crowdtap to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

My eye makeup routine is pretty simple. I put concealer under my eyes. I put some eye shadow on. I tightline my top lid and then put a little mascara on. I never really do anything with my brows, other than brush through them and get them threaded every couple weeks.

Recently, I had the chance to try Revlon ColorStay™ 2-in-1 Angled Kajal Eyeliner, Revlon ColorStay™ Crème Eye Shadow, Revlon ColorStay™ Brow Pencil, and Revlon Super Length Mascara. Since I've never really done anything to my brows before, I was excited to give it a go.

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

We have a goal this year to visit as many national parks as we can. We got a little off track, but managed to visit one on Easter morning. We were going to a lunch at my sister's in Leesburg, VA, so we took a side trip to visit The Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run in McLean, VA.

Fintastic Finds At The Georgia Aquarium

Thursday, April 27, 2017

DISCLOSURE: I received discounted admission in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

I love visiting aquariums. I've only been to a handful, including the National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD, North Carolina Aquarium in Roanoke Island, Sea World San Diego, Sea World Orlando and the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ. But I think my favorite so far has been the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. I had a chance to visit during Spring Break this year and I loved it! There's so much to see and do at the Georgia Aquarium. But, to keep this post from getting too long, I'm just going to talk about my family's favorite things we saw and did.

Almay Healthy Glow Makeup + Gradual Self Tan - REVIEW

Monday, April 24, 2017

DISCLOSURE: I received free products from Crowdtap to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

I tan pretty well. If I spend enough time outside during the summer, I get pretty dark. This was me last summer, hanging out with my buddies, Wilbur and Orville Wright. That was after spending two weeks at the beach.

Tan and chilling with my homies
So, I've never even considered trying a self-tanner before. Yes, I'm more pale in the cooler months, but I actually prefer that over being too tan. Recently, I was sent a sample of Almay Healthy Glow Makeup + Gradual Self Tan. It combines a medium coverage makeup with a gradual self tanner.

PACT Organic - Super Soft Organic Cotton Clothing - REVIEW

Thursday, April 20, 2017

DISCLOSURE: I received this product for free from Moms Meet (, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

I've been trying my best to make sure we eat healthier this year. I've been buying more natural and organic foods and steering away from foods that contain any artificial ingredients, colors, flavors or preservatives. I've also started trying to use more natural hair care and skincare products, as well as natural household cleaning products.

But, one area I haven't really delved into is organic clothing. I've taken a look at some brands, but haven't had the chance to try any of them. A lot of the brands seemed to be more expensive than I was willing to pay. Thanks to Moms Meet, I was introduced to PACT Organic.

Currituck Beach Lighthouse - Corolla, NC - Outer Banks

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

I finally got around to finishing a photo book that I had started last year of our trip to Corolla in the Outer Banks, NC. Looking through all the pictures, I was reminded that I never got around to finish blogging about all the places we visited while we were down there. I did do a little write-up about the Wright Brothers Memorial last year and about the North Carolina Aquarium a couple years ago, though it's changed somewhat since then.

We've been visiting the Outer Banks with my husband's family every year since 2008. But, last summer was the first time we visited with my side of the family. We rented a house in Corolla, which is located in the northern part of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. While we were there, we had a chance to climb the Currituck Beach Lighthouse.

Crochet: Very Hungry Caterpillar Cocoon and Hat

Saturday, March 11, 2017

As winter dies down, I had been looking for other new things to crochet. The other day, I was scrolling through my Pinterest feed and came across a Very Hungry Caterpillar hat and cocoon set. I thought it was so cute! I'm done having babies, but one of my co-workers is expecting a baby this June. I thought it would be the perfect gift! So, I pinned several different patterns and set out to the craft store to find some yarn.

Ideally, I wanted a yarn that had a lot of different colors. As you can see on the book cover above, the caterpillar's body has varying shades of blue and green. I had one yarn in mind that I had worked with before. My one son had gifted me two skeins of Loops & Threads Facets yarn in Capri Blue. It had shades of blue and green and yellow. But, sadly, it's only seasonal and wasn't available.

Though, when I went out to buy yarn, I wasn't even thinking that it wouldn't be available at Michael's. I just knew Michael's wasn't having a sale that week and A.C. Moore was. So, that's where I went. I probably spent 15 minutes in the yarn section, looking for a yarn that would have the same colors. After almost giving up, I spotted a skein of Premier Yarns Puzzle in Cryptic. It's a self-striping yarn with blues and greens. Plus, it's a bulky weight yarn, so I thought it would work up quickly.

National Geographic Kids Books - REVIEW

Sunday, March 5, 2017

DISCLOSURE: I received this product for free from Moms Meet (, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

March is National Reading Month. Last week we celebrated Dr. Seuss Week and Read Across America Day. My husband even went in to read "Ten Apples Up On Top" to my preschooler's class and he wore the Dr. Seuss hat I crocheted for him.

In addition to Dr. Seuss books, another series of books that my kids love reading and having read to them are the National Geographic Kids Readers books. They're a series of non-fiction books that contain fun facts, great pictures and little jokes and puns that make learning fun.

Crochet: Dr. Seuss Week "Cat In The Hat" Crochet Hats

Tuesday, February 28, 2017

This week is Dr. Seuss week at my son's elementary school. Each day this week they're supposed to do something related to Dr. Seuss. Yesterday was silly sock day to celebrate "Fox In Socks." Today was Cat In The Hat day. They were told to wear cat hats if they had any.

I thought it would be cool to crochet a Cat In The Hat top hat for my son to wear to school. I did a search on Pinterest and Ravelry. I didn't really want to pay for a pattern and didn't really have time to try and make my own pattern since I started making the hats yesterday afternoon.

I found the "A Cat In My Hat" pattern by Snappy Tots on Ravelry and went with that. I opted not to include the ears and braids.

I started with the Child/Teen/Adult pattern since my son is 6, but it ended up being too big for him. So, I gave that first hat to my husband. He's going to be reading to my preschooler's class this week and I thought it would be cool if he wore it for that. Then, I made the Toddler size hat and that fit my son better.

His teachers liked the hat and my son loved wearing it to school.

The soup was pretty good. It was a little thicker than what I was expecting, but still tasty.

A Visit To Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine - Baltimore, MD

Thursday, February 23, 2017

This year, we're on a mission to visit as many national parks as we can. Last month, we visited Fort Washington Park in Fort Washington, MD. This month, we ventured out to the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore, MD. In the past, I've only associated Fort McHenry with the tunnel that runs under the Baltimore Harbor. I didn't even know there was a park by there with the same name until my husband told me. He had visited as a child and he thought it would be fun to take the kids one day.

We had a chance to go on Presidents' Day. Both my husband and my kids were off that day and admission to participating national parks was free. We chose to visit Fort McHenry since it wasn't too far -- only about an hour away.

Look at everything in the box!

Minions Valentines Box

Happy Valentine's Day!

I wanted to do a quick post about the Valentines Box my kindergartener and I made the other day. This was the first time a teacher asked us to make a box to hold the Valentines the kids would be receiving in class. Usually, my kids either decorated a paper bag or a little box at school.

I went on Pinterest and did a search on Valentine Boxes and when my 6-year-old saw a Minions one, he got excited and immediately said that was what he wanted!  It didn't look too hard and we had most of what we needed already at home.

First, we needed a shoe box. Luckily, we found one in my older daughter's closet that was a good size. I covered the box and its top in yellow cardstock. This part probably took the longest, since I had the cut all the pieces out and glue them onto the box.

Next, I cut out some blue cardstock for the Minion's overalls. I tried to cut somewhat identical pieces for the front and the back of the box. I also cut straps for the sides of the box.

After that, I cut out some white foam circles for his eyes. I used a plastic ring from a Tying Knots game. I traced the inside of the ring on the white foam paper and I used a glittery silver piece of foam for the goggles. I made the iris and pupil with brown and black cardstock. I made the goggle straps with a piece of black foam paper.

The boxes had to have the child's name on the front, so I used some foam letter stickers that I had to put his name on the overalls. I sketched out a mouth for the Valentines to go in and my husband cut it out with an Exacto knife.

I think it came out super cute! I can't wait to see how well it held up in class!

3DLightFX Deco Light - Kevin - Minions - REVIEW

Thursday, February 2, 2017

DISCLOSURE:  This is a sponsored post in conjunction with  I received a free 3D Deco Light in exchange for a review.  All opinions are my own.

My younger kids can't sleep without a nightlight. They get scared when the room is too dark. So, we use this really old nightlight that my older kids used to use. It used to have a decorative part that matched my oldest daughter's nursery decor, but that broke off years ago. So it's just a naked nightlight bulb. My husband thinks it's too bright, but my son likes it.

This past weekend, I was excited to receive a 3DLightFX Deco Light. It's a nightlight that you hang on the wall. It comes with a crack sticker, so that the nightlight appears like it's crashed through your wall. It's available in all sorts of varieties -- from Disney and comic book characters to sports and other designs. I chose one in the shape of my son's favorite Minions character, Kevin.

L'Oreal EverPure Moisture VoxBox - REVIEW #FreeYourHair

Wednesday, February 1, 2017

DISCLOSURE: I received free samples from Influenster to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

I color my hair pretty regularly. I go to the salon about every 6 weeks to get my roots colored, since the greys have been becoming more numerously lately. This past summer, I was coloring my hair a little more often. I experimented with purple, blue and even green streaks.

But, those colors fade so quickly. I was at the salon almost every 2-3 weeks getting touch ups. I was going through different brands of color-safe shampoos to see if I could find one that would help protect the color, while also making my hair feel less dry and damaged.  After getting tired of going to the salon so often, I ended up using a boxed color to dye it all brown.

Is It Wrong To Love Bread?

I love bread. I probably have bread almost everyday. My husband, though, tells me I eat too much bread. Too many carbs.

The Grain Foods Foundation came out with this great video. The song is catchy -- even my kids sing along to it.

I can't stop listening to it!

Crochet - Chunky Ribbed 2-Color Crochet Cowl

Monday, January 30, 2017

I've been doing a lot of knitting and crochet the past couple months. Most have been hats. I did do a couple cowls and I've been wanting to try and make mittens.

Last week, I wanted to do something quick and easy. So, I made this cowl. I used the Chunky Ribbed Infinity Scarf pattern from Little Monkeys Crochet. The pattern is all half double crochet stitches, so pretty easy. But, I wanted to do something a little different and make it two colors.

I had bought a couple skeins of Lion Brand Hometown USA yarn from Walmart for pretty cheap. I was thinking of making a hat with it, but hadn't found the right pattern. As I was browsing on Ravelry the other day, I came across a post about the color combination of yellow and grey. I liked the way it looked and decided to make a cowl with that combination.

A Day At Fort Washington Park

Tuesday, January 24, 2017

One of our family goals this year is to travel more. My kids and I love going on road trips! One thing that we're planning to do this year is to try and visit as many national parks as we can.

We decided to start somewhere local. We visited Fort Washington Park in Fort Washington, Maryland. I grew up in Fort Washington and the park was definitely a big part of my childhood. We celebrated birthdays in the park. My Dad taught me how to ride a bike in the park. I practiced driving around in the park. My family and I spent a lot time in the park. So, it was great to be able to show my husband and the kids around the park.

Mucinex Fast-Max Clear & Cool Cold Flu & Sore Throat - REVIEW

Tuesday, January 17, 2017

DISCLOSURE: I received a free sample from Smiley360 to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

I've had a cold now for the past few days. It started with a sore throat and progressively got worse. My ear hurts, my nose is stuffy and runny, my body hurts and I have a low-grade fever. I haven't been feeling so run down that I haven't been able to get out of bed, but I just feel like blah.

The other night, I couldn't even sleep because my nose was running so much. I had to get up and take some night-time cold medicine to help me get some sleep.

The next day, I decided to try this Mucinex Fast-Max Clear & Cool Cold, Flu & Sore Throat liquid that I received from Smiley360. I don't normally like to drink liquid medicine. They usually have a weird taste that require me chasing it down with some other drink.

Breakfast at Garden Grill - Epcot - Walt Disney World - REVIEW

Thursday, January 12, 2017

On our last trip to Disney World this past November, we had a chance to experience breakfast at the Garden Grill at Epcot. The Garden Grill is located on the upper floor of The Land Pavilion. The restaurant slowly rotates and provides views of the Living With The Land ride. The Garden Grill offers family-style dining and many of the fruits and vegetables served in the restaurant are grown in the Living With The Land greenhouses.

3D Deco Light from 3DLightFX

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

DISCLOSURE:  This is a sponsored post in conjunction with  I will receive a free 3D Deco Light in exchange for this post and a future review.  All opinions are my own.

My younger kids are scared of the dark and like to sleep with a nightlight.  Right now, they use a somewhat broken one that my older kids used to have. The design part of it had broken off years ago, so basically it's just a nightlight bulb.

A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through my Instagram and saw a picture of a Minion nightlight that someone had gotten for their kids' room. I thought it was pretty cool and my 6-year-old son was on a Minions/Despicable Me kick, so I thought it would be perfect for him!

Happy New Year!

My last few weeks of December was busy, busy, busy! But, I'm back!

The kids are back to school today and I finally have some time to sit and blog!

How were your holidays? Mine was fun! I got a chance to catch up with my sister, who had moved back up to New York at the end of 2015. She had quit her job in Brooklyn and is considering moving back to the DC area, so I'm excited!

Christmas was a little somber. We spent time with both my side of the family and my husband's and that was nice. But, we found out that a family friend was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. That came as a big shock to everyone.

As for resolutions, I usually reread what I wrote around this time the previous year. And as always, I didn't accomplish any of the goals that I had set for myself.

This year, I'd love to travel more. Last year, we had a great two-week visit to the Outer Banks. We also surprised the kids with a trip to HersheyPark and to Penn's Cave. And of course, we took our annual trip to Disney World! I'd love to be able to take the kids on more road trips this year!

I'd also like to get better at knitting and crochet. It would be nice to get to the point where I can open up a little Etsy shop and sell whatever I make. I'm hoping to tackle cable and fair isle knitting this winter.

As for the blog, again I still want to do a redesign and change the name. I need to narrow down what I want the focus to be on and go from there.

Do you set resolutions for yourself? What are your goals this year?
