DISCLOSURE:  I received a free book from Birchbox as part of the Birchbox Book Club to read and review.  All opinions are my own.

I'm not really much of a reader.  When this book arrived and I started reading it, my kids stared at me in disbelief.  Are you reading a book??  They hardly ever see me reading a bookLet alone a 458-page hardcover book!

Over the summer, I had seen Big Little Lies mentioned on many Top Summer Reads lists.  So, when I was offered the chance to read and review the book, I was excited! If I was going to be reading a book, at least it was going to be good!

I hadn't seen or read anything from Liane Moriarty prior to receiving Big Little Lies, so I wasn't sure what to expect.  I'll have to admit the size of the book was pretty intimidating.  I haven't read anything this long since the last Harry Potter book!

Big Little Lies takes place in a beach town in Australia where a murder is being investigated.  The story jumps back and forth between interviews with the kindergarten parents involved and the police and to the events leading up the murder.

I found the beginning of the story to be a little slow.  It took me over a week to really get into the book.  The whole time I was reading the book, it was hard for me to figure out who exactly was murdered.  I had some suspicions, but I can say I was actually surprised when they revealed who was killed and how it all went down.  I did find, at times, that I was wanting to just jump ahead and find out who was killed. But, I tend to be impatient -- with both books and movies.  If it's moving to slow for me, I just skip ahead.

Once I got to know the characters better, it was easier to read.  It was never to the point, though, where I couldn't put the book down. This just wasn't one of those books where I stay up till 2 in the morning trying to finish it because it's so good!

But,  I'd definitely recommend this book to others.  I'm even planning on checking out Liane Moriarty's other works.  Now, that I've finished this one, I need a new book to read!
