Schick Hydro 5 Groomer Review

DISCLOSURE:  I received a free product from Crowdtap to facilitate this review.  My opinions are my own.

I am not a fan of facial hair.  I prefer my men clean-shaven.  And for the most part, my husband complies.  There was the one year --around Christmas time -- when he decided he was going to grow a full beard and mustache.  Luckily, by New Year's Eve, he had shaved it all off.  It was too itchy and I wasn't going anywhere near it!  There was also the other time he decided maybe just a mustache would look good.  I made a point of not going out in public with him!

About a week ago, I was at work and my husband had taken the kids to the local playground.  I got a text from him saying that he had fallen off the monkey bars and split his jaw and was probably going to need stitches.  I still had a whole afternoon's worth of patients to see and no one else to cover for me.  He was going to have to wait until I got home before heading to the ER.  So, he just put a Band-Aid on it before he had it looked at.  In the end, he needed a few stitches and wasn't allowed to shave his face until the stitches came out.  It was going to be a long 5-7 days!

Coincidentally, right around the time my husband had the stitches removed, I received the Schick Hydro 5 Groomer to try.

The Schick Hydro 5 Groomer is a 4-in-1 styling razor that shaves, hydrates, trims and edges.  It features:
  • Five Ultra Glide Blades - with skin guards that smooth your skin to help reduce redness and irritation
  • Hydrating Gel Reservoir - lasts up to 2x as long as ordinary lubrication strips
  • Power Trimmer & Adjustable Trim Comb - with 3 adjustable settings so you can achieve your desired trim length
  • Flip Trimmer - flip the top of the shave side and precisely edge.  Flip it back to shave.

In general, my husband liked the Schick Hydro 5 Groomer.  It worked well when he was shaving.  He didn't get any nicks or cuts.  Since my husband doesn't normally keep facial hair that long, he didn't really use the trimmer.  Even at its lowest setting, his hair was too short to use it.  Because of this, he found it to be too bulky to use as a regular razor.  He wished the razor side could vibrate like a different razor he had used before.

Here's a picture of my husband before shaving, a picture where he kept some of the hair and finally a clean-shaven picture!  Doesn't he look better without all that hair?  (Ignore the weird lighting differences!)

Would you recommend it?
Yes!  It's nice that it offers a trimmer, edger and razor, all in one tool.  This could be great for travel!  It offers a clean shave, without causing much irritation or cuts.

How much does it cost?  It retails for $16.99.

Where can I buy it?    Available at all major drug stores, mass merchandisers and online retailers.
