Happy New Year!

Can you believe it's 2020 already?! It really feels like 2019 went by so fast!
I'm starting the year off sick. I've been battling bronchitis for like three weeks now! I've gone to Urgent Care and the ER and have tried a whole slew of medications and nothing has helped! So, that leads me to my first goal of the year. Well, other than getting better!
1) To start a regular workout regimen
Up until now, I've never really worked out. I might do a random exercise DVD here and there, but nothing on the regular. As I'm getting older, I realize I can't keep living like I did 20, or even, 10 years ago. Plus, I have family history of pretty much every health issue out there. I need to start taking better care of myself.
So, this year, I will start something. I haven't quite decided yet I have a couple friends who do Orange Theory. I'm just not sure that's the right fit for me. I have another friend who has been doing a pole dancing class. That looks fun. But, I don't want people judging me for taking it. I also looked at Pure Barre. But the closest class is 40 minutes away.
Once I figure it out, I’ll share on the blog and/or social.
For my second goal, I wanted to do something for me personally. Each year, I talk about how I want to declutter and organize my life and well, that just never happens! So this year, I plan
2) To learn a new skill
Maybe even 2! I haven't exactly decided what this will be, either. Maybe a new language! Maybe sewing! We will see. I'll keep you updated and maybe share what I've learned.
For my third goal, I wanted to focus on my family. I used to lament not getting to spend time with my family when I only worked on weekends. Then, when I switched to working full time, I lamented missing out on things that happened with the kids during the week. I need to stop being sad about things and just do something about it! So, third goal is
3) To be present with my family more
A few years ago, I posted a picture that my youngest daughter took of me. She was maybe 2 at the time. And it was me, hunched over my laptop, likely working on a blog post. Nowadays, you will catch me hunched over my phone. I am NEVER without my phone. It's like permanently attached to my hand.
I just checked my daily average screen time on my iPhone. It's 8 1/2 hours!! Way too much. I need to cut that by at least half! Not sure if it’s possible, but I will try!
My goal is to plan more activities with the family. Make use of these weekends that I do have off. And try to be present during those activities. The pictures can wait.
Lastly, I have a professional goal. This year, I plan
4) To expand my knowledge base in my field
I work full time in an optometric practice. There’s a high prevalence of diseases, such as glaucoma and diabetes, in the patient population that I work with. My plan is to attend more conferences this year to be better able to diagnose and manage these patients.
Have you set any goals for the year?
I would like to try pole dancing myself. Zumba has worked for me in the past, and I may go back to where I used to go.
ReplyDeleteBut what has been most rewarding for me is to spend hiking in my local nature center. I not only get to exercise, but it also helps clear my head out. I need to be more diligent about finding time to do that
The one health goal I made for myself was to eat more vegetables. It seemed like something that is doable and permanent.
